Is it possible to rent a flat as a couple?

rent flat
Ok basically I live at home with my mum but I really want to move out. I was looking at some ‘rent a flat’ sites for one bedroomed lettings (for me and my boyfriend). I saw one that said ‘NO COUPLES’ and now I’m kinda confused, when they say one bedroomed flat suitable for student or worker does this also mean no couples? :<

Some landlords don’t like couples, because some times couples can lead to children…There’s still plenty of accomodation available for couples.

yes you can rent a flat with your boyfriend, some owners have preferences like no pets or no dss but thats a bit weird it said no couples. Go througha letting agent it might be easier.

    good luck.

yup coz then they lose out as basically you would be paying one persons rent rather than two people and plus your flatmates wouldn’t be big fan either as extra person to wait to use the toilet , bathroom etc, best to find place on your own, then you can do wateva

That is very unusual to be honest, I`ve been renting for years and have never seen a place that says no couples!

Maybe the owner had a bad experience with the couple splitting up and arguing over who had to pay the rent perhaps.

Its definately not a standard thing though, so don’t worry about it.

“Suitable for Student or Worker” means a tiny flat/room which isn’t high on the “boutique” end of flat rentals - i.e. a doss-house.

When I rented my flat some years ago, I took my boyfriend along on a lot of the viewings, and a lot of landlords wanted to know whether or not he was going to be living with me. Basically because of the landlord/tenant rules - if he was living in there, and not on the tenancy agreement, it would be hard to get him out. If you go through a letting agent, just be upfront about it - it isn’t going to cost you any more.

For privately-rented flats, go along to the viewings with your boyfriend. The landlords will soon tell you whether or not you are “allowed” a partner there.

When they say no couples it means its a studio and a small one bedroom flat thats to small for a couple. Im a letting agent myself and plently of landlords will accept couples. Some don’t like students or pets in there properties and no housing benefit due to claw back unless you have a gurantor. Try.,,,,,,, good luck
