Can I rent a flat in Glasgow before getting a job?
I’ll be moving to Scotland next week and will search for a job there. Does anybody knows if I can rent a flat before getting the job? I’m just wondering it would be cheaper then a long stay at the hotel.

I would like to know if I can rent a flat without having a job, or if it is needful to have a job before renting the flat (I mean, do real states make a contract with someone that is unemployed)?

I live in Glasgow. I reckon it’ll be cheaper if you rent a flat, as some hotels are a bit expensive, depending on which area you’re in etc.
You will most likely need a job to rent a property, as you have to pay the first months rent and a deposit before you move in. The landlord or letting agency (whichever you decide to go to) will need to be sure that you can afford to pay the rent every month. If you are under 21, you will need a guarantor letter from someone who can assure that if you miss rental payments, that they can pay it in your place. If you need a cheap place to stay until you find a flat you could try a hostel instead of a hotel, but I’m not too sure what they are like in Glasgow. You could also try flat sharing, there are a few websites dedicated to that in Glasgow, and it’s a lot cheaper. Good luck anyway, I hope it all goes well for you!

its easier to rent flat if you work,lot of landlords wont accept people who are not working/claiming benefits,forget council housing too!there are about 24000 people already on waiting list!you could search on internet and see if any landlords do accept people who are not working,you will probably have to pay months rent and deposit in advance if you find a flat.another option is flat sharing,look for people renting a room in shared flat,its less expensive too! good luck!

You will need to be employed to rent a flat. Any landlord who accepts DSS, avoid like the plague. Sorry but true.

I’m sure it won’t be a problem if you rent a flat before you have a job. You will have a very long time waiting on a council flat as there are huge waiting lists. You will get a flat much quicker by renting privately, although you may be required to pay a months rent in advance and possibly a security deposit also, so you will have to work out if you can afford it.
